Our Stories

Gary is a 34 year-old church planter, ordained United Methodist minister, husband, and father of two precious girls.  Born & raised in the West Houston/Katy area, he completed baccalaureate studies at UofH and seminary at SMU. Gary began his ministry journey as a freshman in college with the youth group at First Baptist Katy and served as senior pastor for two small-town churches from 2004-May 2011.  He enjoys vintage automobiles, baseball, long walks on the beach (j/k), coffee, pretty much anything from the 40’s & 50’s, and laid back get-togethers with friends.

Gary has a white-hot passion for reaching those 'outside the walls' and sees The Commons as an opportunity to "BE" the church rather than "doing" church the same old way.

Chris has a passion for worship and has been involved in music ministry since high school.  After completeing studies in Music and Christianity at HBU, Chris took on his first full time position as worship leader in 2004.  In 2007, while attending the School of Worship at New Life Church in Colorado Springs he met Joanna and the two were married in 2008.  Chris and Joanna have two children, Emersyn (June 2011) and Crockett (December 2013). Chris came aboard as worship leader at The Commons in September of 2011. Chris sees his purpose as helping people connect and engage in authentic worship of their Creator.  Chris believes very strongly in the vision and mission of The Commons and is excited to see what God has in store as we begin this new journey together!
